National Marine Park of Alonissos Northern Sporades
You can easily suppose that this can be as much appealing to us, as also to other creatures. More specifically, Alonissos Island is included in The National Marine Park of Alonissos Northern Sporades. It is the largest marine protected area in Europe, with big biodiversity, so dozens of species live here. Fishes, birds and mammals, such as dolphins and of course seals Monachus – Monachus.

MOm (Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk seal)
You can easily snorkel and observe fish and seagrass beds. Or, if you’re lucky, you may meet some gulls, dolphins or seals as you sail. Especially, although seals are generally shy, some of them are curious and sociable . Enough to come around you and even… sleep on your SUP, as it has happened before! If you have interest in getting to know these creatures better, you may drop by the information center of MOm in the port of Patitiri.
Seals
REMEMBER: Although seals are extremely cute, we shall not forget that they are still a wild, endangered animal . We should avoid to pet or feed them, for their safety, but also, importantly, ours. We should keep our distance, children and dogs away.
Dolphins
Dolphins and some whale species are also live within the area of the Marine Park. Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and Cuvier’s beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris) are the most common species of dolphins and whales found here.
